Absence of Certainty

BY ALLAN MCGREGOR

One man’s very personal battle against the IRA to thwart a major attack on the British government and to avenge the murder of the woman he loved.

This is the story of how a young and innocent university student is drawn out of his normal existence in England and into the world of violence and brutality that characterised Northern Ireland at the height of ‘The Troubles’ in the 1970’s.
It follows his journey from innocent student to undercover intelligence surveillance expert, involved first hand with terrorist gun running. By the end of the book, he has experienced personal tragedy, intense danger and near death experiences. These change him forever and point him in a new and exciting direction.

About Allan

During 'The Troubles' (70's, 80's and 90's) in Northern Ireland I spent a lot of time there as my girlfriend had been born there and grew up in Belfast. The differences between England and Northern Ireland were palpable. The people, the attitudes, the culture, the music, the atmosphere...and the immediate dangers. The vast majority of English people viewed events there through the lens of the British media or from a military perspective. I witnessed it through my own eyes, ears and other senses first hand and those distinctive memories have always stayed with me.

Moving into semi-retirement recently gave me the perfect opportunity to write my first novel and throughout the story to convey some of that perspective and emotion.
